Hi! My name's Gabbi and this is my blog (obviously). I'm a student at Shepherd University with no declared major because I'm just a dual enrollment student. After I graduate from high school in May, I plan on going to college to major in biology/pre-med before attending medical school and specializing in emergency medicine. While medicine is primarily scientific, I'm still pretty creative and love writing fiction or poetry. I've been published before in a national magazine and won a local horror story contest. However, I struggle with argumentative/research-based writing because I feel like my creativity is being stifled. This is something that I'm excited about working on over the course of this semester as I feel that it will help me mature as a writer and further improve my abilities.
Started in January of 2020, this blog serves as an open forum for me to share my thoughts, feelings, and analysis on the songs of today and yesterday, ranging nearly all genres, artists, and time periods. This blog was started for my English 102 class, where we will be assigned blog post guidelines throughout the semester. These guidelines are going to range anywhere from a track to track analysis of a popular album to the analysis of songs from the alternative genre.
I should preface this by saying that while this isn't my first attempt at a blog, it is my first attempt at a blog that I actually care about. Music is art, and the best thing about art is that it can be interpreted in so many ways. I'm interested in nearly all genres of music because they all bring something new to the table and oftentimes, preach similar messages in different formats. Because of this, music is the easiest way to communicate with the world around us and is one of the easiest ways that people participate in other cultures. Different genres have their roots in different groups of people, different time periods, even different instruments. And I think that's what I like most about music; it's the reigning factor of unity, spanning hundreds of years, generations, and continents.
